TLP is an enchanted departure from
traditional schooling — where children are
free to cultivate a deep relationship with themselves & the natural world.

EDIBLE EDUCATION

Our learning community is situated in an abundant front and backyard food forest complete with chickens, fruit trees & shrubs, edible flowers, culinary & medicinal herbs, veggies, and more.
Children deepen their earth connection through engagement in planting, caring for, harvesting, preparing and tasting
the bounty.

RELATIONSHIP WITH PLACE

We spend ample time together in our neighborhood park, learning about and freely exploring the ecosystem of our unique bioregion. You will find us foraging native pawpaws in late summer, making persimmon fruit leathers in fall, and tapping maple trees in early spring.

EARTH-PACED LEARNING

When the Pawpaws discovered dandelion seeds stuck to their rain boots, they quickly became detectives — searching for other wild seeds on the move. Before long, an entire project was launched to investigate how seeds in our park travel. Learners creatively shared their exciting observations. Who knew maple seeds could twirl like helicopters and gum balls could float like boats?

NUTRITIOUS MOVEMENT

Children have never moved as little as they move today, and we are on a mission to change that! At TLP, we advocate for self-guided nature play — where movement is not delegated to “recess” but rather, is integrated into ALL aspects of the day.

“If we want children to move mountains, we first have to let them get out of their chairs.”

— Nicolette Sowder
